Ras Al Khaimah Adventure

Ras Al Khaimah is the UAE's adventure emirate, and Jebel Jais — at 1,934 m the highest peak in the country — is the centrepiece. The mountain road is a modern, fully paved 36 km climb with engineered viewing platforms, and the temperature at the summit typically runs 8–10°C below Dubai, which makes it a genuine escape from a Gulf summer.

Because the ascent is long and the gradients are sustained, this is a tour we run in an SUV as standard. Your chauffeur handles the climb while you use the viewpoints, and the car waits at the Jais Flight terminal if you have booked the world's longest zipline — a 2.83 km run reaching around 150 km/h, which needs a separate reservation and a weight check.

Below the mountain, the day usually takes in the abandoned pearl-diving village of Al Jazirah Al Hamra, one of the last intact coral-block settlements in the Gulf, and the Dhayah Fort hilltop with its 239 steps and views across date plantations to the sea. Guests who prefer a slower pace swap the fort for the RAK mangroves or a long lunch on the Al Marjan Island waterfront.

Practical notes: the Jais road has no fuel station past the base, mobile coverage is patchy on the upper switchbacks, and the summit can be genuinely cold and windy between December and February. Bring a jacket even if Dubai is warm when you leave.
